Four children of the age group of 10 to 13 years drowned in a water-filled pit near a drain work site in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Thursday. The incident was reported around 11.30 am this morning near MGR Garden in the Degloor Naka area of the city.
According to the police, the civic body is constructing a drain in the area. There is a 15-foot-deep pit near the site where wastewater had accumulated, they said.
Four children, all residents of Islampura, went to the spot to play and eventually entered the water without gauging its depth, said the official.
Hearing their cries, police and local residents rushed to the spot but could not save the boys, he said.
The children have been identified as Mohammad Adnan Mohammad Feroz (10), Mohammad Ali Mohammad Idris (13), Sayyed Irfan Sayyed Feroz (13), and Aayan Ibrahim Bagwan (11).
No case has been registered so far, he added.
