At least four persons suffered injuries after a brawl broke out at a marriage function in Ludhiana in the early hours of Tuesday. One of the injured reportedly suffered a head injury, while the others were attacked with sharp-edged weapons during the clash.
Officer in charge Sub-Inspector Jasbir Singh of Police Division-2 confirmed that the incident reportedly took place around 3 am near Kochar Market. The brawl reportedly began between two groups which then turned violent. He said three persons were injured in the initial brawl involving sharp-edged weapons.
According to officials, tensions escalated again when members of the opposing group challenged the other party while they were rushing the injured to the hospital. The situation escalated when a man allegedly opened fire, injuring one person identified as Dharminder. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of them is stated to be in critical condition.
Singh said the legality of the firearm used in the incident is under investigation. When asked about possible gang-related links, Sub-Inspector Singh rejected the link, stating, “It was not a gang war.” “Those involved in the fight were neighbours and were under the influence of alcohol. A minor argument escalated into a violent clash,” he said.
