Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for another spell of snowfall as fresh western disturbance is expected to sweep the region on Monday evening, officials said.
Weather observers have predicted that the system will bring moderate to heavy snowfall at higher elevations, while light to moderate snowfall is likely in the plains and lower areas.
On January 23, the region received major snowfall after a months-long dry spell, providing much-needed relief to the local farming community and replenishing water resources.
Meanwhile, traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was halted on Monday due to icy and slippery road conditions that made travel extremely hazardous, officials confirmed.
According to reports, the dangerous conditions forced the authorities to close the highway as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents.
Restoration efforts on the national highway and alternative routes like Mughal Road—still closed for the third consecutive day on Monday—remain ongoing but are hampered by intermittent snowfall, authorities said.

The Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) Road has also been closed to traffic due to high-danger avalanche risks along elevated slopes.
A traffic department official stated, “Restoration efforts are ongoing but depend on weather conditions.”
Stranded vehicles along the Jammu-Srinagar highway are being assisted by administrative officials, police, and traffic department personnel.
Tourists and travellers have been strongly advised to check with the Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, or Ramban for the latest road status before planning any journeys.
On Sunday, officials had announced partial restoration of the highway following two consecutive days of closure triggered by heavy snowfall on Friday.
The Meteorological Department has warned of continued adverse weather through Tuesday, with potential for more widespread disruptions to travel and daily life.
