The gates of Badrinath Dham were ceremonially shut for the winter season on Tuesday. Thousands of pilgrims came together to offer prayers on the final day as priest Rawal Amarnath Namboodiri performed the traditional rituals and shut the temple gates.
The temple was decorated with 12 quintals of flowers, and the last darshan took place amid the song “Bedu Pako Baramasa.”
According to the temple traditions, the idols of Uddhav and Kuber were brought out, and Goddess Lakshmi was placed inside the sanctum. Lord Badri Vishal was wrapped in a ghrit kambal, a special blanket prepared by the Mana Mahila Mangal Dal.
During the winter months, devotees will offer prayers at Yogadhyan Badri in Pandukeshwar.
Badrinath is one of the 108 divya desams of Lord Vishnu and is part of the Panch Badri temples. The temple is about 50 feet tall with a gold-covered cupola. It has three main sections: the Garbha Griha, the Darshan Mandap and the Sabha Mandap.
At the main gate of the temple, the idol of Garud, the vehicle of Lord Badarinarayan, sits facing the sanctum with folded hands. The walls and pillars carry detailed carvings.
The Garbha Griha has a golden canopy and houses the idols of Lord Badari Narayan, Kuber, Narad Rishi, Udhav, Nar and Narayan. There are 15 idols in total in the complex.
Earlier, the portals of Kedarnath Dham were closed for winter on October 23, which was Bhai Dooj.
