Lieutenant General Rajan Sharawat, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Rising Star Corps, on Saturday asserted the operational preparedness during his visit to forward areas in Kathua district.
In a post on X, the Rising Star Corps wrote, “The GOC Rising Star Corps reviewed the operational preparedness of troops deployed in Bani, Machhedi and Kathua.”
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharawat interacted with soldiers deployed at forward posts and hailed their professionalism and commitment to safeguarding the nation, the Rising Star Corps said in another post on X.
Kathua district is a security-sensitive region and has seen intensified military operations following a surge in terror-related incidents in the district over the past few years.
With the onset of winter and heavy snowfall in the upper reaches, troops stationed in forward areas face the difficult challenge of preventing terrorist infiltration.
Kathua has also seen multiple firefights between security forces and terrorists in 2025, as security agencies believe the upper reaches in the Jammu division remain infested with terrorists.
According to recent estimates, there are around 100–120 terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir, with the majority operating in the Jammu division, while another 60–70 are believed to be waiting to infiltrate this side.
Lt Gen Sharawat has conducted similar reviews several times this year, including in October, August, June and May 2025, underlining the importance of security-sensitive regions along the India-Pakistan border.
