Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday launched an investigation after a suspicious bag was found near the Head Post Office in Udhampur district, officials said.

Sources said that Jammu and Kashmir Police quickly rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure, and initiated a probe.

This comes just days after a major search operation to track down the terrorists hiding in the forest areas of the district was launched following an intense night-long encounter.

The firefight resulted in the death of one SOG jawan of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, with two more sustaining injuries in the aftermath of the encounter.
Security forces continued their combing operation for two days to track the terrorists who had fled the encounter site.

However, two days after the initial search operation ended, forces once again launched searches after reports came that the surviving terrorists had collected food from a local house in the Majalta region.

Despite relentless efforts, security forces had to call off the operation due to bad weather conditions and the constant movement of terrorists in dense forest cover.

A joint search operation by police and paramilitary forces was launched in Chore Motu and adjoining forest villages in the Majalta area. The operation was initiated after receiving credible leads about the presence of terrorists in the area.  The area remains on high alert, with security forces continuing to monitor developments.
