One of the major challenges of army officers is to stay in contact while on the move. Their mobile phones or communication equipment are hardly helpful while working in remote places and for longer hours.
Khushi Pathan, a 21-year-old girl from Vadodara, has designed a one-of-a-kind uniform for the army personnel that gives them access to electricity even on the move.
All the army personnel need to do is spend at least half an hour in the sun while wearing the uniform suit. This will solar charge and give them enough power to fully charge their mobile phones. It can also charge their walkie-talkies and radios.
After passing her 12th grade Khushi had joined a 3-year fashion diploma course. As a part of the final year project she was required to design a dress. Khushi started her project in January with an objective to resolve some problem for army personnel.
She met several army officers at the Vadodara army cantonment. Although army officers had protocol limitations in providing information, they were encouraging and were able to guide her with several required information.
Khushi has specially taken care that apart from being able to solar charge, the uniform is flexible enough and is lightweight.
Since Khushi is from a fashion background, it was quite a task for her to understand the nitty-gritty of physics and electricity. The dress has 20 small solar panels on it.
Although solar panel will slightly increase the weight of the uniform, there will be an overall weight benefit because army personnel are otherwise required to carry battery bank, charger, extra battery and so on.
Khushi met about 150 people and worked for six months to design this unique innovative dress. Young innovators like Khushi create the fabric of India, which is giving hope to common citizens about the idea of our nation.
