Just weeks after Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh switched sides from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP, he has come under heavy troll attacks online, forcing him to disable the reply function on his X profile.
Bhajji’s move triggered a political firestorm after a post directed at the Punjab DGP over the law-and-order situation.
His X timeline was flooded by angry AAP supporters and political trolls, who targeted the former cricketer over issues ranging from the NEET controversy and inflation to Punjab’s pending RDF dues.
On Thursday, the barrage was so intense that Bhajji quietly turned off replies on several of his posts, allowing only select followers to comment. The trolling campaign started against him just weeks after AAP protesters labelled him a “Gaddar” outside his Chhoti Baradari residence following his dramatic political crossover to the BJP.
When one user taunted him to “first ask your BJP bosses about Punjab’s RDF funds”, Bhajji responded sharply: “I will surely ask them this for Punjab, as it’s my duty. But ask your leader to stop using Punjab ministers to make money for your leader. And stop fooling Punjabis with false promises.”
Notably, replies on the post had already been disabled. While several users targeted Bhajji with hateful remarks, he responded to many by saying, “Check your facts before coming at me.” He also added sarcastically, “If someone raises a concern, then why? If they don’t raise, why are you quiet? Kamaal hai.”
Annoyed by continuous trolling, he eventually restricted replies on posts where he directly engaged with trollers. The switch has not been going well for several leaders, including Raghav Chadha, who has also come under sharp criticism from the trolls.
