Due to soaring temperatures and ongoing heatwave conditions in the state, Haryana has announced early summer vacations for government schools. The decision was taken in Chandigarh in a meeting attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and the Education Minister.
As per the announcement, summer vacations in government schools will start on May 25 and continue till June 30. Normally, schools in Haryana start summer vacations from June 1 every year, but this time the schedule has been advanced due to extreme heat.
During the meeting, officials also reviewed the condition of basic infrastructure in government schools. They discussed steps to ensure essential facilities for students during the intense heat.
In another major decision, the Education Minister ordered that teachers in government schools will not be allowed to use mobile phones inside classrooms during teaching hours. He also announced that voluntary labour activities will be added to the school curriculum as part of education and social development.
Haryana has been facing a severe heatwave for the past several days, with very high temperatures affecting normal life across the state.
As per the Meteorological Department, no immediate relief is expected from the current weather conditions. Temperatures in five districts have crossed 45 degrees Celsius. Rohtak recorded the highest temperature at 46.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was 6.2 degrees above normal.
An orange alert for severe heatwave conditions has been issued by the weather department in Haryana until May 25, warning people to take necessary safety measures.
