The tragic killing of BJP leader Surendra Jawahar in Haryana’s Sonipat has sent shockwaves through the region. Jawahar was shot dead by his neighbor, identified as Monu, inside a shop on Friday night following a longstanding land dispute. According to officials, Monu fired at least two bullets at the BJP leader before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm and was captured on CCTV footage. The video shows Monu forcefully pushing Jawahar into a shop, pointing a gun at his head.
In the footage, the BJP leader can be heard shouting, "Maar diya, maar diya" (He's killed me). Despite the efforts of two to three people attempting to intervene, Monu fired the fatal shots and escaped.

Officials confirmed that Jawahar died on the spot. Following a swift police investigation, Monu was arrested on Saturday morning. A preliminary probe revealed that the dispute stemmed from Jawahar’s purchase of land from Monu’s uncle and aunt.
Since the transaction, tensions had been escalating, with Monu warning the BJP leader to stay away from the land. However, when Jawahar visited the property to resolve the issue, Monu confronted him, chased him down, and ultimately killed him.

The attack was carried out by three assailants on a motorcycle. Initially, the attackers aimed at the district unit president of the outfit, but the bullet missed and struck a 12-year-old boy instead. Manga immediately attempted to escape on a two-wheeler, but his attackers pursued him.
During the chase, the assailants fired again, this time hitting Manga fatally. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Law enforcement officials have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder, and further investigations are underway.
