Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini flagged off two buses from Rewari on Sunday, marking the start of the first batch of pilgrims traveling to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
This is part of the 'Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana,' which was recently expanded to allow senior citizens to visit the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela.
On January 16, the state government extended the scheme, enabling senior citizens to participate in the holy event and take part in the sacred bath. The first batch of devotees left for the mela, with two buses carrying pilgrims from Rewari.
During the event, Saini interacted with the pilgrims, wishing them a safe and fulfilling journey. He was in Rewari for the Republic Day celebrations.
According to an official statement, the Information, Public Relations, and Languages Department worked quickly to update the registration portal and ensure all the required procedures were in place to support the expansion of the scheme. Thanks to their efforts, the first batch has successfully set off.
The buses also included doctors and security personnel to ensure a smooth journey.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government facilitates trips to important pilgrimage sites under the yojana. He mentioned that many pilgrims from the state had already visited Ayodhya and other sacred sites.
The Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana offers free travel for senior citizens over the age of 60, whose family income is less than Rs 1,80,000. Registration on the yojana portal is mandatory for devotees wishing to join the pilgrimage.
