Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday flagged off the ‘Drug-Free Haryana Cyclothon 2.0’ in a major push against substance abuse in the state. At the launch event, he administered a pledge to participants, urging them to stand united against drug addiction and contribute to building a healthier, drug-free Haryana.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the cultural strength and pride of the state, saying, “Desha Maa Desh Haryana, Jeet Doodh Dahi Ka Khana. Wrestling is the pride of Haryana. Our strong wrestlers, valiant soldiers, and dedicated farmers define who we are.
There is no room for drugs in such a state.” He informed that the Cyclothon will travel through every village in Haryana over the next three weeks, raising awareness and mobilising public support for the campaign.

Recalling the success of the first edition of the Cyclothon, which spanned 25 days and saw participation from over 1.77 lakh cyclists and more than 5.25 lakh citizens, he said the 2.0 version is being launched with renewed energy and greater resolve.
Saini stated that the campaign goes beyond awareness—it is a strong collective step against the destructive grip of drug addiction, which he described as a serious challenge to both individual lives and the social fabric of the nation.
The Chief Minister emphasised that drugs not only deteriorate personal health but also fuel rising crime rates, including illegal arms trade and financial crimes. He called upon citizens to recognize the severity of the problem and work together to eradicate it.

He reiterated the state's commitment to the fight against drugs by referencing the State Action Plan launched on May 5, 2023, which includes a three-pronged approach: awareness, de-addiction and rehabilitation, and strict enforcement against drug traffickers.
He shared that the government has established a Special Task Force (STF) to take decisive action against narcotics networks and that large-scale awareness initiatives are underway.
A total of 52 de-addiction centres have been established across Haryana, with special wards created in government medical colleges and facilities set up in 13 district civil hospitals. Treatment and counselling services are also being expanded at the primary and community health levels.
Saini noted the crucial role of gram panchayats and sarpanches in taking the campaign to the grassroots. Their active participation, he said, is helping to ensure that the anti-drug message reaches every household and every village.

In support of this statewide mission, the government has launched a toll-free helpline to assist drug addicts and receive public reports on drug-related activities. Additionally, a portal called ‘Manas’ has been created to allow citizens to report information about drug smugglers anonymously, with full confidentiality assured.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the government has confiscated properties of individuals involved in drug trafficking. To enhance enforcement and intelligence sharing, new technologies like ‘Hawk’ software and the ‘Prayas’ mobile app have been introduced. These digital tools help maintain a centralised database of criminals, victims, and drug-related incidents.
Educational institutions are also being roped into the effort. A program called ‘Dhaakad’ has been rolled out in schools, colleges, and universities to protect children and young people from falling prey to addiction. Moreover, Anti-Narcotics Cells have been established at the district, range, and state levels to further tighten the enforcement network.
Concluding his address, CM Saini said that the visible energy and commitment shown by participants reflect the public's shared determination to rid the state of drug abuse. He said he is confident that with unity, awareness, and strong enforcement, Haryana will succeed in creating a drug-free future for its youth and society at large.
