The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau has intensified its action against power theft across the state. The Additional Director General of Police has directed officials to launch a focused campaign targeting repeat offenders involved in electricity theft.

While chairing a review meeting here, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Navdeep Singh Virk instructed officers and staff to take strict action against habitual electricity thieves and strengthen enforcement efforts. He stressed that the aim of the drive is to send a clear message that power theft is not just a financial loss to the state but also a serious criminal offence.

As part of the campaign, cases are being registered under Section 135 (theft of electricity) of the Electricity Act, 2003. Authorities are also arresting deliberate and repeat offenders found involved in such illegal activities.

During the first quarter of 2026, the drive against power theft led to a revenue recovery of Rs 32.28 crore. Between January and March 2026, a total of 90 persons were booked and arrested in electricity theft cases, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.

In one such case in Rewari district, a man was held in connection with five separate incidents of electricity theft. Despite receiving repeated notices to deposit the penalty amount with the power utility, he failed to comply with the directions.

As he was identified as a habitual offender, he was formally charge-sheeted and produced before the District and Sessions Court in Rewari, the statement added. The bureau continues to identify and take action against habitual electricity thieves across different districts of the state.
