A Haryana man defaces a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) milestone at Fotu La Pass in Leh, an act captured on video that sparked widespread public outrage.

A man from Haryana has sparked widespread outrage on social media after a video showed him defacing an official Border Roads Organisation (BRO) milestone at Fotu La Pass in Leh by pasting a “Gurjar” sticker on it.

The incident took place at an altitude of 13,479 feet. The man arrived at the location in a Mahindra Thar SUV and appeared proud of his actions, smiling and posing for the camera while damaging the milestone.

The video soon went viral online and clearly shows the vehicle’s registration number. This has led to growing demands for strict action against the man by the authorities.

Social media users strongly criticised the act, calling it vandalism, irresponsible tourism, and a clear lack of civic sense. Many users stressed that BRO signboards are not just road markers but symbols of the hard work done by personnel who connect India’s remote border regions.

“Hope the police identify him and make him clean all BRO road signs for a month,” one user commented. Another wrote, “The real enemy of India is Indians themselves,” slamming the man for smiling while damaging a national symbol.

Another user suggested that the man should be fined Rs 50,000 and be made to issue a public apology for his actions.

The video soon went viral online and clearly shows the vehicle’s registration number. This has led to growing demands for strict action against the man by the authorities.

Adding to the anger, reports claim that the vehicle involved has at least 18 pending traffic challans. Social media users have tagged Ladakh Traffic Police and BRO officials, urging them to take swift legal action for damaging public property.

The incident has once again raised concerns about responsible tourism and respect for public property, especially in sensitive border areas where such infrastructure holds strategic value and reflects the efforts of frontline workers.
