The Met Department (IMD) has issued a warning for cold wave conditions in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till November 12. Night temperatures have dropped below normal in several areas. Last week, however, the minimum temperature across northwest India was slightly above normal.
According to an IMD bulletin issued in November, the weather is likely to remain dry over the next seven days. No major change in minimum temperature is expected for the next three to four days, though it will stay 2°C to 4°C below normal in many places.
In the past 24 hours, minimum temperatures in Punjab ranged from 7.2°C in Faridkot to 12.7°C in Mohali. Bathinda recorded the biggest drop, with the temperature 3.5°C below normal.
Rainfall in November so far has been slightly below the long-period average (LPA). Between November 1 and November 10, Punjab received 1.6 mm of rain against the normal of 1.8 mm for the same period, showing a shortfall of 9 per cent.
However, the seasonal rainfall since October 1 has been much higher than average. The IMD said Punjab has received 220 per cent above-normal rainfall during this period.
