The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rain across Himachal Pradesh from August 3 to August 7. While heavy rain is expected in some areas, no flash flood alert has been issued for the state so far.

Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at IMD Himachal Pradesh, said active monsoon conditions are likely to continue over the state during the next few days. He said rainfall activity is expected to remain strong between August 3 and August 7. Heavy showers may occur at isolated places during this period, but there is currently no flash flood warning for Himachal Pradesh.

Sharma noted that rainfall has been uneven across the state this monsoon season. Between June 1 and August 3, Himachal recorded an overall rainfall deficit of about 9 per cent, although some areas received much more rain than usual.

According to him, Jubbal, Kotkhai, Dharamshala and Rampur have recorded around 76 per cent above-normal rainfall. Some weather stations even reported rainfall levels up to 168 per cent higher than normal during the past month.

The IMD has forecast heavy rain at isolated locations in Bilaspur, Kangra and Shimla on August 3; Una, Bilaspur and Kangra on August 4; Kangra and Chamba on August 5; and Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra and Shimla on August 6.

The weather department has advised residents and travellers, especially those moving through hilly regions, to remain alert. Heavy rain may lead to poor visibility due to fog, mist and low clouds, particularly in Shimla and other higher-altitude areas.

Sharma also said temperatures across the state are close to normal for this time of year. He added that active monsoon conditions are expected to continue throughout the week.
