Heavy rain is likely to continue across Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, with the Meteorological Centre issuing orange and yellow alerts for six districts.
An orange alert has been issued for Kangra, Una and Chamba, where very heavy to heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places during the day. A yellow alert is in place for Shimla, Kullu and Mandi, warning of heavy rain at a few locations. Other parts of the state may receive light rainfall.
The weather office has said minimum temperatures are likely to remain near normal, while maximum temperatures may rise by 2°C to 3°C. The minimum temperature recorded in Shimla was 17.4°C, followed by 17.6°C in Dharamshala, 19.2°C in Manali, 21°C in Solan, 24.2°C in Mandi, 25°C in Bilaspur, 25.4°C in Hamirpur, 15.8°C in Kufri, 21.5°C in Nahan, 15.4°C in Kalpa, 14°C in Keylong, 22°C in Una and 22.6°C in Bhuntar. Bharmour in Chamba recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 12°C.
Meanwhile, all government and private educational and technical institutions in Nahan subdivision of Sirmaur district will remain closed on Wednesday due to the weather alert. The closure includes schools, colleges, ITIs and anganwadi centres.
The decision was taken after the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Sirmaur, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning. Such conditions could trigger flash floods, landslides and other weather-related incidents, posing risks to life and property.
Nahan Sub Divisional Magistrate Rajiv Sankhyan said the order was issued after taking into account the prevailing road conditions, the weather forecast and the availability of public transport.
However, examinations that were already scheduled will be held as planned. The heads of all educational institutions have been directed to ensure that the order is strictly followed in the interest of students' safety.
