Security forces recovered 1.5 kg of heroin valued at approximately Rs 8 crore after it was airdropped by a Pakistani drone near the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bishnah area, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The consignment was found late Wednesday night in a field in Bahadurpura village when a local resident spotted the suspicious bag and alerted the authorities. Initial investigations indicate the narcotics were dropped from across the border using a drone.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further probe is underway.
Drone droppings of weapons, narcotics, medical supplies, and other contraband in Jammu and Kashmir are primarily carried out by Pakistan-based terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
These cross-border drone incursions have posed a growing challenge to security forces deployed along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC), with incidents rising sharply in terror-prone districts including Doda, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, and Samba.
Recent similar recoveries include: In January 2026, a Pakistani drone dropped an IED, ammunition, and narcotics in the Khadi Karmada area of Poonch. Multiple attempts were reported in the Sambar sector. Drone sightings and droppings occurred in the Ghagwal area of Samba district and the Nowshera sector. Last month, security forces seized 4 kg of heroin dropped by a Pakistani drone in the RS Pura sector.
