The Scorpio SUV that allegedly evaded a police checkpoint was later seized on Dalwas Link Road in Ramban district.

A security alert was issued in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district early on Friday after a car reportedly ignored a police checkpoint and drove away. The incident triggered a large-scale search operation involving multiple security agencies.

According to officials, the vehicle was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu when police personnel at the Chanderkote checkpoint signalled it to stop at around 3:30 am. Instead of halting, the driver allegedly continued towards the Nashri side.

Following the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a coordinated search across the district. Senior officers, along with teams from the CRPF and the Army, were deployed to strengthen checks at key points on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and nearby routes. After several hours of search efforts, the vehicle was located and seized on the Dalwas Link Road in Ramban district. The driver subsequently abandoned the car and fled, officials said.

Police are now investigating the reason behind the driver's attempt to avoid the checkpoint. Efforts are also underway to identify the occupants and determine their whereabouts.

Officials said security measures have been tightened as a precaution. A case has been initiated, and investigators are examining all possibilities, including whether the occupants were trying to avoid checking due to criminal or security-related concerns.

The incident comes at a time when security forces are already maintaining a high level of alert across Jammu and Kashmir due to ongoing counter-terror operations and recent security developments.

Security agencies continue to keep a close watch on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, an important route linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. Vehicle inspections, identity checks and regular patrols are being carried out along the highway.

Over the past few months, police, the Army and central security forces have increased surveillance in sensitive areas, especially along highways and border regions, to prevent illegal activities and stop the movement of terrorists or weapons.

Officials said the investigation is continuing, and more information will be released once further findings emerge.
