Himachal Pradesh has received national recognition for its innovative Aadhaar-based face authentication, an official said. The state has been praised for using this technology in a practical way that helps people access essential services.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) honoured Himachal Pradesh for being the first state in the country to use face authentication for ration delivery under the Public Distribution System, he said. This is a significant step in making government services more secure and efficient.
As per a spokesperson from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, the award was given during Aadhaar Day celebrations held in Hyderabad as part of UIDAI’s 'Samvad' programme. The ceremony recognised the state’s efforts in adopting new technology for public service.
He said Himachal Pradesh is leading the way in using face authentication at fair price shops. This system is making the distribution of ration smoother and more reliable for everyone involved.
"The solution was developed by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department in consultation with the Department of Digital Technologies and Governance and UIDAI. The innovation is cost-effective, simple to operate and ensures stronger governance with a higher authentication success rate," the spokesperson said.
He said the initiative had made verification easier, especially for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and residents in remote areas. Traditional authentication methods like fingerprints or OTPs often caused difficulties, but face authentication is now helping them access their rations more smoothly.
