Light to moderate rain and snowfall were recorded in different parts of Himachal Pradesh, leading to a noticeable drop in both minimum and maximum temperatures across the state.
The Shimla Meteorological Office on Saturday issued an orange warning for hailstorms in four to five districts for April 7 and April 8, urging residents to stay alert. Fresh snowfall was reported in the upper reaches of Lahaul and Spiti and Kullu over the past 24 hours since Friday evening. Gondla received 13 cm of snow, while Hansa and Keylong recorded 7.5 cm each. Koksar witnessed about 3 cm of snowfall.
Light snowfall was also observed near the Atal Tunnel during Friday night, adding to the cold conditions in the region. Intermittent rainfall continued in many areas of the state. Dharamshala recorded the highest rainfall at 39.2 mm, followed by Manali with 36 mm and Sarahan with 32.7 mm. Kasauli received 23 mm, Sundernagar 22.5 mm, Kalpa 18.2 mm, while Mandi and Bilaspur recorded 13.4 mm each. Bhuntar received 11.4 mm and Shimla recorded 10 mm of rain.
The MeT department issued an orange alert warning of hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the weather office, a fresh western disturbance is likely to influence northwest India from Wednesday onward. A wet spell is expected to continue across Himachal Pradesh till April 10.
Thunderstorms and lightning were reported in Shimla, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, Jot and Kangra. Gusty winds, reaching speeds between 39 and 59 kmph, were recorded in Seobagh, Sundernagar, Tabo and Neri.
Temperatures dropped significantly at several stations. Minimum temperatures fell by 2–5 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures declined by 2–8 degrees Celsius. Tabo remained the coldest place at night with 0.6°C, while Una recorded the highest daytime temperature at 30.6°C.
During the pre-monsoon period from March 1 to April 4, Himachal Pradesh received 105.5 mm of rainfall against the normal 120.5 mm, registering a rainfall deficit of around 12 per cent.
