Hindu organisations in Jammu, along with the BJP, on Monday staged a protest against the recent assaults, looting, and killings of members of the minority community in Bangladesh.
Business establishments and shops remained closed in response to a bandh call given by the Sanatan Dharm Sabha.
The protest rally, led by Sanatan Dharm Sabha president Mahant Ram Sharan Dass Acharya, saw several Hindu organisations gathering at Kuleed Chowk to protest against atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, including alleged attacks on temples and violence against women.
Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma said, “Today, protests were held in Kishtwar against the atrocities being perpetrated on Hindus in Bangladesh. On the call of the Sanatan Dharm Sabha, Kishtwar observed a bandh.”
“Hindus are being attacked. Temples are being targeted. Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker, was brutally lynched to death,” he said.
Separately, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday described the killing of a minority Hindu youth in Bangladesh as a “horrendous act” and expressed “strong concern” over the deteriorating situation in the country. MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal rejected reports claiming that Bangladesh’s diplomats in India were facing safety issues.
The Bangladesh interim government’s Foreign Affairs Adviser spokesperson, Touhid Hossein, had said that these incidents occur in many south South Asian region and that authorities have already detained several suspects in connection with the case.
On Thursday last week, a young minority man was lynched to death, and his body was set on fire by a mob in Mymensingh city.
