The Mizoram Election Department on Monday launched a home voting initiative for the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) polls, enabling 2,769 elderly citizens, persons with chronic illnesses, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to cast their votes from home, an official said.
The special voting arrangement, which began on Monday, will continue till Thursday, covering all 19 municipal wards in the state capital. The initiative is aimed at ensuring greater inclusivity and participation in the electoral process, particularly for those unable to visit polling stations.
On the first day, the oldest participant in the exercise was 102-year-old Nghakliani from Dawrpui Veng, highlighting the reach of the programme among senior citizens. Officials said the response from registered voters has been encouraging.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other essential polling materials were dispatched from the District Election Officer’s office under tight security in the morning.
