Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Leader of the Opposition, has raised concerns over the nationwide shortage of cooking gas. He questioned the government’s claims that there is no shortage, and asked why people are queuing up at various locations if the supply is adequate.
Hooda held the BJP government responsible for the shortage of cooking gas in Haryana, saying the situation reflects a wider issue across the country. He accused the government of failing to clarify the actual position. “In several places, the supply of commercial cylinders has been completely halted, affecting hotels, restaurants, dhabas, catering services, and other businesses, bringing many to a standstill,” he said.
“Delays in cylinder booking and delivery are being reported in many areas. As a result, black marketing has also begun. Under these circumstances, the government must present the true status of LPG availability to the public,” he added.
Interacting with journalists at his residence, Hooda stated that intermittent, unseasonal rains over the past two days have caused extensive damage to wheat
and mustard crops. He demanded that the government immediately conduct a crop damage assessment (girdawari) and provide compensation to farmers.
Responding to a question on the Rajya Sabha elections, he said a minimum of 31 votes were required to win one seat, and the MLAs cast 32 votes in favour of the Congress party. However, he alleged that the Returning Officer conspired with the BJP and cancelled four of their votes. In protest, the Congress has submitted a memorandum to the Governor and lodged a complaint with the Election Commission. He added that the party leadership has also initiated disciplinary action against five Congress MLAs involved in cross-voting.
