A day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued shoot-at-sight orders for those inciting violence at night in Dhubri, the district witnessed an intense security clampdown on Friday night resulting in the arrest of 38 suspects. In a decisive move to restore law and order following incidents of communal tension, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Akhilesh Kumar Singh personally led extensive patrol operations.
The crackdown comes amid a heavy deployment of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), acting directly on the Chief Minister’s instructions. The presence of RAF jawans and local police personnel was strongly felt across the streets and alleys of Dhubri, with authorities working in tandem to prevent any further flare-ups and ensure the safety of residents.
In a major development, 38 individuals have been arrested from eight police station areas across the district. The arrests, announced via a tweet by Sarma, are in connection with non-bailable offenses— underscoring the severity of the alleged crimes.
“The police have taken swift and effective action to apprehend those threatening the peace and harmony of the region,” the Chief Minister stated, reaffirming his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activity and communal incitement.
Tensions in Dhubri escalated following a series of disturbing incidents during the Bakri Eid celebrations. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “The day after Bakri Eid, a severed cow head was deliberately placed in front of a Hanuman Mandir in Dhubri.” He added that while community leaders and peace committee members initially acted swiftly to ease tensions, the situation worsened when a second cow head was placed at the same spot the following day— an act clearly aimed at provoking further unrest.
Officials have confirmed that the law enforcement operations will continue, with a focus on preventing nighttime disturbances and ensuring long-term stability in the district. The arrests and high-level patrolling reflect the administration’s strong stance against unrest and its commitment to maintaining public order.
As the situation in Dhubri remains tense but under control, security forces continue to maintain a high state of alert, assuring residents that all necessary steps are being taken to uphold peace and protect their communities.
