The Himachal Pradesh government’s ‘Watch and Patrol’ initiative has expanded from Shimla’s Mall Road to major tourist destinations across the state.
A spokesperson for the Himachal Pradesh Police said the citizen-friendly ‘Watch & Patrol’ initiative, which began on Shimla’s Mall Road, has now been extended to other key tourist destinations, including Manali, Solan and McLeodganj.
He said the initiative was initially launched on Mall Road to improve police visibility, enhance public safety and assist tourists. It has since emerged as an effective model of modern policing focused on service, accessibility and public trust.
Under the initiative, police personnel in ceremonial uniform have been deployed at important public locations to assist tourists, guide visitors, support senior citizens and respond promptly to emergencies. Their visible and approachable presence has significantly strengthened the sense of safety and confidence among both tourists and local residents.
The spokesperson said the initiative has received wide appreciation for the disciplined, courteous and helpful conduct of police personnel, helping create a positive image of the Himachal Pradesh Police as a people-centric force.
Encouraged by the public response, the State Police has decided to further strengthen and expand the model to other major tourist destinations across the state. The ‘Watch & Patrol’ initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to making Himachal a safe, welcoming and tourist-friendly destination while promoting responsive governance and service-oriented policing.
He added that Himachal Pradesh Police is continuously working to improve the initiative through regular monitoring, training and modern policing practices to ensure safety, trust and convenience for every citizen and visitor.
