Four persons, including a mother and her daughter, lost their lives on Monday after their car went out of control and fell into a 400-foot-deep gorge in Sirmour district, Himachal Pradesh, according to officials.
The accident took place near Piyulilani village on the Sangrah-Gattadhar road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, and it fell into the deep gorge. The car was carrying five people and was travelling from Theer Dhar to Gattadhar when the accident happened. All those in the vehicle hailed from the Sangrah subdivision of Sirmour district.
The deceased have been identified as Amra Devi (52), a government school teacher, her daughter Aradhya (14), Priyanka, and Sajjan Singh (62). Injured Ajit Kumar (33) had been shifted to Sangrah hospital.
Local people quickly started a rescue operation and managed to pull out the bodies and the injured person from the gorge. The mother and daughter were reportedly on their way to school at the time of the accident.
Sangrah SDM Sunil Kayath said the bodies have been handed over to the families after post-mortem examination. Police said they are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
