A controversy has erupted following the declaration of the Union Public Service Commission results, with two candidates from different states claiming the same rank in the Civil Services Examination.

The dispute centres on rank 301, with both candidates named Akanksha Singh asserting that they secured the position in the examination.

One of the claimants is Akanksha Singh from Ara in Bihar, who has been widely reported in local media as having secured the rank. She is the granddaughter of Brahmeshwar Singh.

Speaking to reporters, the Bihar-based candidate said she cleared the Civil Services Examination 2025 in her second attempt and had been confident of success this year.

“I was confident about securing the result this time around. This was my grandfather’s dream. He had a lot of belief in me,” she said. Brahmeshwar Singh was killed in 2012.

The candidate also described her preparation strategy, saying she studied for eight to ten hours daily while preparing for the examination.

“I used to study eight to ten hours a day. My parents played a great role in my success. Last year, when I failed to clear the exam, they continued supporting me without frustration or anger,” she added.

However, the claim has been contested by another candidate named Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, who has alleged that her identity and rank are being misrepresented.

In a post on Facebook, the Uttar Pradesh-based candidate said the rank actually belongs to her and alleged impersonation.

“It has come to light that my rank and identity are being impersonated by others,” she wrote, attaching documents that she said were her original identification proof and e-summon letter.

The controversy deepened after an admit card circulating on social media appeared to show the same name and roll number, adding to confusion over the claim.

While the documents circulating online indicate that the name and roll number appear identical, reports suggest that the fathers’ names mentioned in the records differ, which has further complicated the matter.

Attempts to contact the Ghazipur-based candidate for further comment were unsuccessful.

With conflicting claims emerging from the two candidates, attention has now turned to the UPSC for an official clarification on the issue.

The commission has not yet issued a statement regarding the matter. Observers say a clarification from the UPSC will be crucial to settle the dispute and verify the authenticity of the competing claims.
