Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district detected an improvised explosive device (IED), officials said on Saturday. According to officials, the IED was placed inside a bag and left on the roadside at Gulab Sheikh Mohalla near Kohestan Colony in the district’s Safapora area.
A bomb disposal squad was later called in to defuse the device. This is developing news; more details will follow as they emerge.
A day earlier, on Friday, security forces detected an improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said. The IED, as per security forces, was detected in the Janbazpora area of the district on Thursday night.
They later said that the bomb disposal squad had successfully defused the device without causing any harm. IEDs are extremely dangerous because they are cheap, easy to make, highly concealable, and can cause massive casualties, severe injuries, and widespread terror with unpredictable blast effects, shrapnel, and secondary hazards.
They target civilians and security forces indiscriminately, making them one of the deadliest weapons in asymmetric warfare and terrorism.
