The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for nine districts in Telangana for Monday, September 15.
According to the latest bulletin from the IMD, heavy rainfall is highly probable in isolated areas of the Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Narayanpet districts. The bulletin also stated that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur in isolated places across all 33 of the state's districts.
At least two people are feared to have been swept away in a drain after heavy rain lashed Hyderabad on Sunday evening, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion in various parts of the city. According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm when the rainfall caused a surge of water in Afzalsagar.
"Due to heavy rains, two people were washed away in the drain. A search operation has been launched. So far, they have not been found," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Asif Nagar Division) B Kishan Kumar told the media.
In a separate incident, a man named Dinesh Kumar is also missing. The search operation for all missing persons is underway.
The Telangana Development Planning Society reported that the Boudha Nagar Community Hall in Musheerabad received the highest rainfall with 124 mm, followed by the MCH Colony with 118.5 mm and the Jawahar Nagar Community Hall with 114.3 mm, both in Musheerabad, between 8:30 am and 11 pm.
The downpour led to waterlogging and overflowing roads in many areas, but the city’s disaster management personnel, traffic police, and civic teams worked to clear the affected areas and ensure traffic flow. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal posted on 'X', "Personally overseeing the situation at the command control centre, Banjara Hills Road No 12, where heavy rainwater has caused waterlogging. @GHMCOnline & @Comm_HYDRAA teams are actively diverting water and managing traffic rerouting. Directed officials to use a couple of more motors to clear water swiftly."
The IMD's Met Centre here warned that heavy rainfall is highly likely to occur in isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Narayanpet districts from 8:30 pm on Sunday to 8:30 am on September 15. It further warned that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are highly likely to occur in isolated places across all districts during the same period.
