Heavy rain in Rajasthan in the last 24 hours has caused flood-like situations in a number of cities like Ajmer, Pushkar, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Pali, according to officials on Saturday. Several villages were isolated as rivers, drains, and dams were overflowing with the heavy downpour.

On Friday evening, 17 people got stranded in the Banas River along Golera village in the Todaraisingh belt of Tonk, but were later evacuated by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). In Dargah area of Ajmer, a number of people were washed away by the powerful water current, which led to locals stepping in and pulling them to safety.

Owing to the incessant rain in Ajmer, a poorly built house in Lakhan Kotdi was reduced to rubble on Saturday morning. All because the family had vacated the structure a day before cracks had started appearing on it, said police. Meanwhile, Ajmer's Ana Sagar lake overflows as a result of incessant rain, and locals are filling sandbags in their bid to contain the water.

Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Vinod Manohar said that waterlogging took place because of the spillover from the outlets of the lake and the channel gates have been opened.

Jaipur MeT department head Radhey Shyam Sharma said that a depression over eastern Rajasthan will move slowly towards western Rajasthan, weakening in the coming few hours to a well-marked low-pressure system.

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the Jodhpur division on Saturday and moderate to heavy rain in parts of the Ajmer and Udaipur divisions. The possibility of decreased heavy rain activity in the Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, and Bikaner divisions from Saturday is also high, Sharma said.

He also added that a sudden drop in rain activities in the entire state is expected from Sunday onwards, bringing relief from the heavy showers for the next week.

Another bout of heavy rain might return in the eastern Rajasthan region around July 27-28, the director said.

The past 24 hours, till 8.30 am on Saturday, witnessed maximum rainfall of 234.0 mm in Bundi district's Nainwa, followed by 230 mm in Nagaur's Merta City, 190 mm in Ajmer's Mangliawas, 180 mm in Nasirabad of Ajmer, and 160 mm in Pratapgarh.
