The hill state of Himachal Pradesh has witnessed an increase in cyber fraud over the last three years.
As many as 585 cases of cyber fraud were registered in the state till January 31, 2026, involving a fraud of around Rs 150 Crore, said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Replying to a question by the BJP MLA, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, the figure of cases registered in the last three years is a cause of concern. He said a maximum of 59 cases were registered in Kangra district, followed by 58 in Police district Baddi, and 41 in Mandi.
The CM informed that 262 cases of cyber fraud have been lodged in three Cyber Crime Police stations.
He said the Cyber Police Station, Shimla, had lodged cases pertaining to the highest fraudulent money equivalent to Rs 55.62 lakh crores. He said in some cases of cyber fraud, the connivance or carelessness of the bank employees has also come to light. A total of 258 accused persons have been arrested in cases of cyber fraud.
He said it was an era of Artificial Intelligence, and the spike in the cases of cyber fraud is a grave challenge. He said the state government is continuously trying to solve the cases and tackle the menace.
Sukhu said Cyber help desks have been established in 146 Police stations, and eight officers have been given training in handling these cases, and more are being trained. He said awareness was being created in schools and in Panchayats about cyber fraud.
