The Indian Army’s timely intervention in north Kashmir’s Langate Handwara area early Sunday prevented a blaze from causing major damage in the Muqdam Mohalla, officials said.
The blaze ignited at around 1:50 am at a residence of Dilawar Ahmad Mir, a Bakarwal by profession and son of Ghulam Qadir Mir, they said.
The fire, which could have caused massive damage in the area, was contained with the Army’s assistance, which also prevented the loss of lives.
Officials said that Army personnel posted in Langate rushed to the spot and immediately began a containment operation at the site using fire extinguishers and a water bowser.
Minutes later, the Handwara Fire Brigade also joined the efforts to douse the flames.
A local resident present at the incident site confirmed that the Army’s quick response prevented the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
Authorities, especially from the Power Development Corporation, have urged residents to ensure proper maintenance and a safe distance from electrical installations during the upcoming summer season, which might trigger such incidents.
The Indian Army remains committed to community support and service to the nation, officials added.
