The Shimla police on Monday arrested a key interstate drug kingpin from Punjab. The accused has been identified as Sunny Rathore (48), a resident of Abohar in Fazilka district of Punjab.
On January 8, the district police had apprehended four individuals — Aman Verma (37), Sanjeev Kumar (35), Rohit Kumar (33) and Nikhil (33) — from Theog in Shimla district, and recovered around 10 grams of chitta (heroin) from their possession. A case under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, was registered at Police Station Theog.

“During the course of investigation, technical and digital evidence was analysed, which helped identify the main supplier of the contraband by establishing backward linkages. Based on this, a police team was sent to Punjab, where the kingpin was successfully arrested,” officials said.
They added that further investigation is in progress and efforts are underway to identify as well as trace other individuals involved in the drug-trafficking network.
