DIG Sandeep Goyal on Wednesday addressed a press conference in connection with the recent encounter linked to the killing of two police personnel. He said a thorough investigation was carried out into the case.

He said a joint operation was launched and the accused with Pakistani links were identified and apprehended. The case was cracked with the help of the Technical Cell teams in Batala and Gurdaspur. Officers worked day and night as the case was a major challenge, he added.

The DIG said Pakistan’s ISI was trying to claim success over the attack. So far, three accused have been identified in the case. Both slain officers had been posted at the same police station for a long time.

According to the DIG, the arrested accused were in contact with Pakistan’s ISI and carried out the attack on police personnel on their directions. During interrogation, accused Ranjit Singh disclosed that the weapon used in the crime had been hidden in the Bahrampur police station area.

A police team went to recover the weapon, but their vehicle overturned on the way. In the chaos, the accused managed to escape. Senior officers were immediately informed.

Following this, a red alert was declared across Gurdaspur district. Around 3 pm, a CIA inspector set up a blockade in Nashar village. When the accused was spotted and asked to stop, he tried to flee and opened fire on the police. Police retaliated, and the accused was injured in the exchange of fire. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The DIG said raids are continuing to arrest the third accused, identified as Inderjit. He added that the accused were traced within 72 hours of the incident. The DIG said the sacrifice of the slain police personnel had been avenged.
