The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved major upgrades in existing power projects aimed at strengthening electricity supply and transmission in Srinagar and adjoining areas.
As per the Chief Minister’s office, the Council of Ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, sanctioned the augmentation of the Grid Sub Station at Zainakote from 450 MVA to 780 MVA at an estimated cost of Rs 67.66 crore.
The government has also approved the upgradation of the 132 KV Pampore–Rawalpora and Rawalpora–Bemina transmission lines at a projected cost of Rs 25.47 crore.
Officials said these projects would significantly boost transmission capacity, reduce power outages, especially during winter, and ensure a more reliable and efficient electricity supply for consumers across the region.
The 132 KV Pampore–Rawalpora project is especially important, as a large section of industries located in Srinagar’s Rangreth industrial estate will benefit from the upgradation meansures.
These industries experience challenging times during winter, especially on days of heavy snowfall when supply lines are disrupted in the region. This forces these industrial estates to rely on makeshift and costly alternatives to run industries in winters.
