Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said on Thursday that the people of the Union Territory (UT) have placed their trust in the Constitution of the country and its democratic institutions, especially the Supreme Court.
Speaking to mediapersons, Choudhary said residents of J&K had always believed in the democratic nature of India. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court will take into consideration the concerns and expectations of ordinary people in the region, particularly those living in remote areas.
He said the ongoing challenges faced by farmers, labourers, and low-income business establishments, urging that these ground realities be considered by the country’s apex court.
Choudhary said unemployment among youth is one of the most pressing issues in J&K. Almost every household has at least one unemployed young person, he said, and their voices, as well as those of their families, must be heard.
He said families across the UT work hard to raise their children with the hope that they would one day find employment and lead dignified lives, he added.
He added that the Supreme Court must consider these realities in mind while deciding on matters related to governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to the ongoing political situation, Choudhary said the region had not had an elected government for over a year.
He said Jammu and Kashmir must be governed by representatives elected by the people, not by individuals who have remained in power for several years without a public mandate.
He said the aspirations of common people, farmers, drivers, workers, and parents, must be given priority in all decision-making processes related to Jammu and Kashmir’s governance.
