Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday launched rescue operations to evacuate stranded people and vehicles amid heavy and ongoing snowfall across north, south, and central Kashmir districts.
In Kulgam’s Qazigund area, a police team led by SHO Syed Nazir Indrabi assisted commuters, cleared stranded vehicles, and ensured smooth traffic movement and public safety.
In neighbouring Devsar in Kulgam district, SHO-led police personnel rescued a dialysis patient from the Guddar area and safely transferred him to a hospital.
In Shopian district, police teams remained deployed on the ground, assisting stranded individuals despite relentless snowfall.
Similarly, in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, police initiated rescue efforts in higher reaches and remote areas, extending help to those who require urgent assistance.
In north Kashmir’s Handwara, police rescued an elderly woman from the snowbound Rakh Shehlal Harni Pura area, using a JCB to clear roads before safely shifting her to a hospital.
In addition to police and civil administration efforts, the health department has begun evacuating patients needing immediate medical care to nearby facilities.
In Baramulla district, health officials successfully evacuated and transferred three pregnant women from hard-to-reach, snowbound areas of Medical Block Kreeri to SDH Kreeri, where they remain under close medical observation.

The fresh snowfall commenced early on Tuesday morning and continued through the day. The Meteorological Department has forecast that it will persist for a few more hours and may continue intermittently on Wednesday.
The heavy snowfall has disrupted normal life in Kashmir, forcing residents to remain indoors due to severe weather conditions. Authorities have advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in remote and avalanche-prone areas.
