YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday launched a sharp critique against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing his administration of "scrapping government liquor outlets, expanding illegal sales, and allowing spurious-liquor factories to operate across the state."
The former Chief Minister observed that despite "plentiful liquor sales," Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports indicated that excise revenue for the first five months of 2025–26 stood at ₹6,992.77 crore. This figure represented only a 3.10 per cent increase over the ₹6,782.21 crore recorded during the same period in the previous year.
Writing in a post on X, Reddy alleged that the natural revenue growth of at least 10 per cent had failed to materialise, which he claimed was proof that TDP leaders were systematically "siphoning off" the revenue that should have reached the government treasury.
Jagan further claimed that Telugu Desam Party leaders had set up an entire fake-liquor manufacturing factory in Mulakalacheruvu in Annamayya district to supply the illicit produce. He asserted that TDP functionaries have "systematically endangered people's lives through liquor syndicates, illegal shops, and fake-liquor manufacturing," laundering the proceeds for distribution within the party organisation.
He stated that reports of spurious liquor had emerged across North Andhra, the Godavari districts, and Rayalaseema, but that investigations were "perfunctory" as key accused are linked to the TDP leadership. Reddy specifically alleged that the TDP in-charge of Annamayya district, who was implicated in manufacturing fake liquor, was "let off," with police cases filed only superficially.
There was no immediate response from the TDP regarding these serious allegations.
Meanwhile, CM Naidu has directed officials to utilise the central government's 'Purvodaya' scheme to boost agriculture and allied sectors in the state.
'Purvodaya' scheme is meant for the all-round development of some eastern states and Andhra Pradesh.
"The state government must make use of central government's Purvodaya scheme to develop agriculture and allied sectors," said Naidu in a press release issued late on Saturday night.
During a review meeting on agriculture, aquaculture and horticulture departments at his camp office, the chief minister stressed the need for value addition across these sectors to enhance income for farmers and entrepreneurs.
Naidu directed officials to study both domestic and international market trends and encourage farmers to cultivate high-demand crops to ensure remunerative prices.
