In a brazen daylight attack that stirred concerns over security in Uttarakhand’s capital, Vikram Sharma, a Jharkhand-based criminal with more than 50 cases against him, was shot dead outside Silver City Mall on Rajpur Road in Dehradun on Friday morning.
The shooting occurred around 10 am as Sharma was exiting a gym located within the mall complex. According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police inputs, two unidentified assailants, allegedly waiting near a staircase, approached him as he moved towards his vehicle and fired multiple rounds at close range.
Sharma sustained three bullet injuries and collapsed instantly. Though he was reportedly carrying a licensed firearm, he had no opportunity to respond due to the suddenness of the attack. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh described the incident as a “well-planned execution” and said investigators are examining all possible angles, including gang rivalry and business disputes.

The Rajpur Road area was immediately cordoned off, and CCTV footage from the mall and adjoining establishments is being analysed to trace the attackers. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the spot.
Sharma had a long criminal history in Jharkhand and was known to be a close associate and mentor of jailed gangster Akhilesh Singh, currently lodged in Dumka jail.
He was previously a prime accused in the 2007 murder of Ashish Dey, co-owner of Sreeleathers, but was acquitted in 2022 due to lack of evidence.
Police suspect the killing may be linked to ongoing gang rivalry or disputes related to his business activities. Authorities from Uttarakhand and Jharkhand are expected to coordinate the investigation.
