Jharkhand govt sanctions ₹ 116.42-cr for health infrastructure

The fund will be used to improve the functioning and upkeep of government hospitals and health centres across the state.

The initiative aims to enhance basic healthcare facilities and ensure better medical services for patients in both urban and rural areas.


In a major push towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, the Jharkhand government has approved Rs 116.42 crore under the Chief Minister Hospital Operation and Maintenance Scheme for the financial year 2026–27.

 

The fund will be used to improve the functioning and upkeep of government hospitals and health centres across the state.

 

According to an order issued by Additional Chief Secretary of the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, Ajay Kumar Singh, the initiative aims to enhance basic healthcare facilities and ensure better medical services for patients in both urban and rural areas.

 

Under the scheme, district hospitals have been allocated Rs 15.75 crore. Each of the 21 district hospitals, including those in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Bokaro, Chatra and West Singhbhum, will receive Rs 75 lakh for maintenance and operational improvements.

 

A total of Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for 12 sub-divisional hospitals, with each hospital set to receive Rs 50 lakh. Bokaro and Palamu districts will have two sub-divisional hospitals covered under the scheme, while other districts will have one each.

The government has also earmarked Rs 18.80 crore for 188 Community Health Centres (CHCs), with each CHC receiving Rs 10 lakh. West Singhbhum accounts for the highest number of CHCs under the scheme at 15, followed by Ranchi with 14 and Garhwa with 13.

 

For rural healthcare infrastructure, Rs 16.50 crore has been approved for 330 Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Each PHC will receive Rs 5 lakh. Dumka district has the highest number of PHCs covered under the scheme at 48, followed by Ranchi with 29.

 

The largest allocation, of Rs 59.37 crore, has been made for 3,958 health sub-centres and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the state. Each centre will receive Rs 1.5 lakh. Ranchi has the highest number of such centres at 394, while West Singhbhum has 342.

 

The Health Department said the funds will be utilised for repair and renovation of hospital buildings and boundary walls, painting, electricity and drinking water facilities, sanitation, furniture, medicines and essential medical equipment.

 

The allocation will also support installation of solar lights, refrigerators, toilets, fire safety systems and plantation drives.
