The Jharkhand government will deploy artificial intelligence-based systems for crowd management, security, traffic regulation and pilgrim services during the Rajkiya Shravani Mela 2026, scheduled to begin on July 31 in Deoghar.

The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Jharkhand Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar in Deoghar on Monday, where preparations for the annual pilgrimage to Baba Baidyanath Dham were assessed in detail.

Minister Kumar directed officials to integrate advanced technology to ensure a safer, smoother and more efficient experience for the lakhs of devotees expected to attend the month-long religious fair. He stressed timely completion of all civic and infrastructural works.

Among the key technological interventions planned are an AI-based Integrated Mela Control Room, an AI-powered traffic management system, chatbot services for devotees, face-recognition technology, and location-based attendance monitoring systems.

Aadhaar-enabled counters and a digital pavilion will also be set up to streamline public services and improve coordination between departments engaged in mela arrangements.

Officials from Deoghar and Dumka districts presented updates on ongoing infrastructure works and administrative readiness, including arrangements related to roads, electricity, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, and security deployment.

Kumar also emphasised strengthening the QR code-based feedback mechanism to enable real-time grievance redressal and improve service delivery during the pilgrimage period.

In a major decision aimed at crowd discipline and safety, the government has decided to continue the ban on out-of-turn VIP and VVIP darshan during the mela, ensuring equal access for ordinary devotees.

Expressing concern over repeated accidents involving overloaded vehicles, the Tourism Minister directed a complete ban on double-decker tractor-trolleys entering Deoghar during the pilgrimage season. Special enforcement teams will be stationed at entry points to ensure compliance, while devotees have been urged to use only authorised passenger vehicles.

Senior officials, including district administration representatives, police officers and departmental heads, attended the review meeting.
