Chief Minister Hemant Soren flags off the “Run for Jharkhand” at Morhabadi Ground on Tuesday as the state launches month-long Silver Jubilee celebrations marking 25 years of its formation.

Jharkhand on Tuesday began its 25th Foundation Year celebrations with vibrant public participation, as Chief Minister Hemant Soren and MLA Kalpana Soren jointly inaugurated two major programmes, the “Run for Jharkhand” from Morhabadi Ground and a state-wide awareness drive from the Chief Minister’s residence.

The launch marked the start of the state’s Silver Jubilee festivities, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The month-long celebration will culminate on 15 November, Jharkhand’s Foundation Day.

Addressing participants at Bapu Vatika in Morhabadi, the Chief Minister described the “Run for Jharkhand” as a tribute to the state’s collective spirit. “I salute all those whose sacrifices and vision gave us Jharkhand,” he said. “As we step into our 25th year, let this be a moment of pride and resolve to move forward with renewed determination.”

Later, Hemant Soren and MLA Kalpana Soren flagged off an awareness campaign organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations. A fleet of specially designed publicity vans will travel through every district, block and village, narrating Jharkhand’s 25-year journey, its welfare schemes, development milestones and cultural achievements.

“The 25-year journey of Jharkhand represents self-respect, resilience and growth,” Soren said. “This Silver Jubilee, observed alongside Birsa Munda’s 150th anniversary, is a proud moment for our tribal and indigenous communities.”

The opening day also featured cultural performances highlighting Jharkhand’s rich traditions. Folk dancers and musicians, including a popular Santali band from Dumka, showcased the state’s diverse heritage through energetic song and rhythm.

Among those present were Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, MLAs CP Singh and Kalpana Soren, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajani, IPRD Director Rajeev Lochan Bakhshi, senior officials, students, athletes and local residents.
