In a tragic incident in Jharkhand's Garhwa district, a woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws after she refused to share government funds meant for women's welfare.
Shakeena Bibi, the wife of Khurshid Ansari from Mangaon village in Ranka, received Rs 7,500 from the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mainiyaan Samman Yojana (JMMSY) in her bank account on March 10. After withdrawing the money, she returned home, where her husband, mother-in-law Rozni Bibi, and grandmother-in-law Najma Bibi demanded a share of the amount.
Shakeena gave ₹500 to her husband, but he and her in-laws insisted on more. When she refused, an argument broke out, leading to a violent attack. They allegedly beat and strangled her to death before hanging her body from a tree to make it look like suicide.
Shakeena's father, Roz Mohammad Ansari, filed an FIR at Ranka police station on March 11. The police have since arrested her husband and are searching for the other accused.
Ranka SDPO Rohit Kumar Singh confirmed the incident, stating that previous family disputes may have contributed to the crime. However, the demand for the JMMSY funds appears to have been the immediate trigger. The investigation is ongoing.
