The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday booked a senior administrative officer in a disproportionate assets case. The accused, JKAS officer Zafar Iqbal, is currently serving as Chief Accounts Officer in the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in Srinagar.
An Anti-Corruption Bureau spokesperson said the case was registered after a secret verification was carried out into allegations that the officer had accumulated assets far beyond his known sources of income.
According to the spokesperson, the verification revealed that during his postings at different places, the officer allegedly misused his official position and acquired assets worth crores of rupees in his own name as well as in the names of his family members and relatives.
“Based on the verification, a prima facie case of criminal misconduct was established against the accused, who was serving as Treasury Officer in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, at the time,” the spokesperson said.
A case has been registered at the ACB Central Police Station, Jammu, under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and a robe has been initiated, the spokesperson added.
He further said during the investigation, search warrants were obtained from the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu. ACB teams then carried out searches at the accused officer’s residential premises in Bathindi, Jammu, and Gursai in Mendhar, Poonch, along with his official residence at Sanat Nagar in Srinagar.
During the searches, officials recovered and seized several incriminating documents related to movable and immovable properties, the spokesperson said.
