JMM revises list, 21 candidates to contest Assam polls

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has released its first list of candidates for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026, announcing nominees for 21 constituencies.

 

The list features a mix of new faces and experienced leaders, reflecting the party’s strategy to expand its political presence beyond Jharkhand.

 

According to a press release issued by the party’s Central committee, candidates have been selected strategically to strengthen JMM’s position in Assam.

 

The party has prioritised leaders from tribal, backward, and local communities, indicating a focused effort to connect with these voter groups.

 

Key candidates include Preeti Rekha Barla from Majbat, Tehru Gaur from Biswanath, Amit Nag from Khumtai, Bhuben Murari from Chabua, and Fredrickson Hasda from Gossaigaon.

Other nominees include Baldev Teli (Sonari), Peter Minj (Duliajan), Paban Sautal (Rongonadi), Bharat Nayak (Digboi), Prabhat Das Panika (Bhergaon), Mahabir Baske (Tingkhong), Abdul Majan (Barchalla), Mathew Topno (Rangapara), Jarnal Minj (Margherita), Sanjay Bagh (Naharkatia), Muna Karmakar (Makum), Ratnakar Tati (Doomdooma), Sahil Munda (Sarupathar), Sonia (Titabor), Pratapching Rongphar from the reserved Bokajan (ST) seat, and Prabhakar Das (Khowang).

 

The list indicates that JMM is focusing on consolidating support among tribal and indigenous communities, with many candidates known for their strong grassroots presence in their respective areas.

 

Political observers believe the party is making a serious attempt to establish a foothold in Assam as part of its broader expansion strategy.

 

JMM General Secretary and spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey stated that the candidates were selected after careful consideration and expressed confidence that they will meet public expectations and perform strongly in the elections.
