Following the demise of Engineer Rashid’s father, a delegation of several Lok Sabha Members of Parliament visited the Baramulla MP’s residence on Friday to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
The delegation included MPs Umesh Bahubhai Patel and Sudhakar Singh, along with other political leaders from different states.
The visiting MPs interacted with family members, party leaders, and scores of people gathered at the residence.
During their brief media interaction, they expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying there are people in the country who genuinely feel the pain and suffering of the region.
They emphasised that democratic engagement and sincere dialogue are critical for lasting peace and reconciliation in Jammu and Kashmir.
MP Sudhakar Singh from Bihar said nobody doubts how much the people of Kashmir have suffered and added that marginalised voices must be heard with honesty and seriousness.
He appreciated Engineer Rashid’s constant efforts in highlighting political and human rights issues of Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh accused the Modi government’s governance model of further alienating the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying it has neither engaged meaningfully nor fulfilled its promises.
He pointed to Engineer Rashid’s continued incarceration as one of the major factors widening the gap between New Delhi and Kashmir.
The visiting MPs also interacted with people from different walks of life and assured them that the people of India are not enemies of Kashmiris.
