Parts of Kashmir received fresh snowfall and rain, with minimum temperatures rising above the freezing point at most places in the valley, officials said on Tuesday.
The famous ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was also among several places in the upper reaches that received intermittent snowfall through the night, which continued until the morning, they said.
In south Kashmir, Shopian, the Mughal Road, Gurez, and Bandipora also received fresh snowfall, while the plains experienced intermittent rainfall. According to the MeT office in Srinagar, “There is a possibility of further snowfall in the higher reaches and rainfall in the plains over the next few days.”
The minimum temperature in the summer capital Srinagar settled at 2.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, compared to 4 degrees Celsius recorded on the previous day, officials said.
Other parts of the valley also recorded above-normal minimum temperatures, ranging between 3.8 and 5.6 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Gulmarg and Pahalgam also recorded sub-zero temperatures, with the mercury settling at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius and minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag recorded 2.8 degrees Celsius.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather, with the possibility of rain at isolated places. The recent rain and snowfall ended a month-long dry period in Kashmir, which was also reflected in several water bodies, which showed an increase in the water levels following snowfall recorded on December 20-21.
