In a rare show of parliamentary courtesy that stood in stark contrast to the bitter public rivalry between the two parties, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and several other senior Congress leaders walked over to KCR’s seat to greet him before the formal session began.

The winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly kicked off on a somber note this Monday. The House convened primarily to pay tribute to former legislators who recently passed away. Led by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, members observed a two-minute silence in honour of former MLAs R Damodar Reddy and Konda Laxma Reddy. Following the obituary references and a brief Zero Hour, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings until January 2 giving the House a short break before the more contentious debates begin.

The most notable moment of the day was the high-profile return of BRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). First time, in two years, his appearance at the Assembly drew significant attention from both the media and his political rivals.

While Monday’s proceedings were marked by decorum and tradition, the atmosphere is expected to shift drastically when the House resumes in the new year. The ongoing "war of words" between the Congress and BRS over critical river water issues has already set the stage for a stormy session.
