The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially announced Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as its chief ministerial face for the 2027 Assembly elections in the state.
The declaration was made by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal during a roadshow in Bathinda on Friday. He called on party workers and supporters to work together to ensure Mann returns as Chief Minister after the next election.
Speaking at the event, Kejriwal also claimed that the Punjab Assembly elections might be held earlier than expected. He said he had received information suggesting the polls could take place in November instead of February, leaving less time for preparations. Kejriwal urged party leaders and workers to focus their efforts on helping Bhagwant Mann secure another term in office.
Praising Mann's performance, Kejriwal described him as one of the most honest leaders Punjab has witnessed in recent decades. He said no allegations of corruption had been made against Mann, his family or his ministers.
The AAP leader also targeted the BJP-led Central Government. He said several opposition leaders across the country had faced investigations by agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), but no financial wrongdoing had been linked to the Punjab Chief Minister.
Kejriwal claimed that if there had been even a small corruption allegation against Mann, the Centre would have acted against him. The announcement is being seen as an early signal of AAP's campaign strategy as the party begins preparing for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
